A Cooking Lesson
"That vanilla sure does smell good mom". This simple statement from my young daughter became a learning moment.
While baking cookies one day my daughter started talking about a group of friends that were having fun but in their fun they hurt the feelings of another friend. This led to a discussion of actions and their results.
We looked at the ingredients in a chocolate chip cookie. Alone, each ingredient has a purpose. We focused on the ingredient, vanilla. Like me the girls love the vanilla scent so we talked about how good it smelled and how we liked it. It smells so good and it is used to enhance the recipe it certainly must also taste good. Then they tasted it. How many ways can you say "yuk!"?
Sin is like that. We are tempted not because something looks bad, but because it looks good, inviting, exciting. It is when we get a good taste of it that we see the true nature.
Take time in your everyday activities to show God's love and lessons with your child.
