Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly,as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.
What are you thinking about? How do you fill your mind? I started to focus on this thought one day when I realized my daily productivity was affected by the music or tv I played in the background. I have problem with “the sounds of silence”so I always have something blaring in the background or on headphones.
I found I was depressed on the days I played country music and I was rather melancholy on days I played adult contemporary and I didn’t get anything accomplished when I played the oldies. This was true even though I didn’t really pay any attention to the words, it was just background music afterall.
We are reminded in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 that we are in a battle nd we must take captive our thoughts to be obedient to Christ. That is why we are told to dress each day with the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:13-18) and specifically to protect our minds with the helmet of salvation.
Books, TV, and radio with themes of illicit sex, senseless violence and anti-christian sentiment invade our thoughts and declare war on our hearts. Remember to put the breastplate of righteousness.(Ephesians 6:14)
When I go to a salon for a relaxing massage they create an atmosphere of serenity with low lights, candles and soft music, to aid in the release of physical tension. When I need to fill my mind with reminders of God’s love I listen to readings of His Word and singing of His praises. It aids in the release of emotional and spiritual tension.
What are you thinking about? What is filling your mind? Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17)
