Pastor Appreciation Month As they continued their travel, Jesus entered a village. A woman by the name of Martha welcomed him and made him feel quite at home. Luke 10:38
October is Pastor Appreciation Month. Bearnabas Bear and I have been working daily to blog ideas about appreciating our pastors.
Pastors are unique people. They work daily helping others in times of need, preaching God’s gift of salvation and demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ in their everyday living. This is also what you and I are called to do but when someone takes on the title of Pastor the world’s critical eye seems to focus on every move they make and then general judgments are made.
I believe a job harder than being a Pastor would be the role of the Pastor’s wife. Now here is a woman who must share her husband with everyone in her own congregation, whether it be 100 people of 100,000. She is looked upon by the world even more critically than the Pastor. She is the Proberbs 31 woman.
These people stand ready at all times to come to us in our times of need. How about taking a moment to honor these people in your lives. Here are just a few suggestions:
Þ Organize a card shower Þ Send a hand written note of appreciation Þ Invite them to dinner at your home or restaurant Þ Send a gift card to a favorite restaurant or activity Þ Have a testimony time in your service Þ Send flowers, balloons and/or teddy bears Þ Fulfill a need of the pastor and/or his family Þ For one full month do not criticize the pastor, wife or staff
This is just a short list of suggestions. You may have other more personal ideas. I’d love to share your experience with others. Let me know what you have done to show your appreciation to your pastor. Send it to bearyann@bearwitness.org
