As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you....  Isaiah 66:13

I was blessed this month with the arrival of my new granddaughter.  So sweet and innocent, I enjoyed holding her close as I prayed for God's love to blanket her throughout her life.  I knitted her a teddy bear and looked over at her mother, my daughter. I was reminded of 1 Corinthians 13:11, "When I was a child, I talked like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I grew up I put childish ways behind me."

No, I am no longer a child but I do try to remain "like a child". Though I have taken on grown up ways and responsibilities I must remember to "become like a little child that I may enter the gates of heaven" (see Matthew 18).   I will  be humble and seek God's will and guidance in all I do.   I will seek God for my comfort just as my grandchild seeks comfort from her mother.  Like a child I will be  trusting of God, I will believe His teaching and follow His instruction.

My teddy bear reminds me to be "like a child". As a child I held tight to my teddy bear; I took it with me wherever I went and I confided my deepest hurts and secrets to him. I may still hold onto a teddy bear now but my confidences are placed in God.

What about you? Whether you are 6, 60 or 106 you are still a child of God. Are you leaning on Him or upon your own way?  I can hold my grandchild and play and love but then I return her to her mother. I am not the one with the full responsibility of her growing up. God has no grandchildren!! We are all His children, brother of Jesus Christ, direct heirs to Him. John 3:16 tells us "For God so loved the world He gave His only Son, that whosoever believe in Him shall have everlasting life."

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up  I Thes 5:11

An ENCOURAGING Idea:   Do you need a teddy bear to serve as reminder to you that you are a child of God and in that manner you are to be like a child? While we are to encourage others, sometimes we need encouragement ourselves.
