I was surfing around the different blogs and came across His Wonderful Gift. The January 16 blog is about a simple event and following the leading of the Holy Spirit. Jerald Gilbert was lead off his regular driving route and came upon an accident. He prayed as he passed by the scene knowing the Lord had led him there to pray.
He discusses how some people don’t understand this, thinking if it were really of God he should have been able to perform a miracle in healing or pray before to prevent the accident. But Jerald knows he did his part, he did what God wanted him to do. He is not responsible for the event or the end result, he is responsible for doing what God commanded, pray.
I have a very bad habit of feeling I don’t do enough, or I didn’t do the right thing. God has been helping me to understand that I am not responsible, He is. I have a small part and once I do as He directs I am finished with that event. I may never know the outcome this side of heaven, and I don’t need to. My part is to do what God commands, even if it is simply waking in the middle of the night and saying a prayer. That is my part.
Some time ago a former pastor kept coming to my mind and the need to pray for him. Each time I lifted him in prayer and left it to God. Finally one day I called him and told him he had been on my heart and I had been praying for him. He asked how long this had been going on and during the course of the conversation, my prayers began as he was being faced with a major decision. We talked and he thanked me for following God’s lead. My prayers answered his prayers.
Isn’t if awesome to see God at work!!! Lord, help me continue to “do my part” and to leave the rest to you.
I have been watching this closely. It has generated much debate not only nationally, but also locally and within my family. I overheard a conversation today where the discussion involved how much it is costing the state to pay the medicaid bills over the past 7 years.
No one knows what really happened the day Terri collapsed except perhaps Terri herself and her husband. But that is not the issue right now. The issue is the life of this woman. … and her death.
My concern comes in the removal of the feeding tube. She is not on “life support” in that she breaths on her own, her heart and lungs function on their own. The only tube is for feeding. One family member recently commented to me “that is life support”. I disagree. I feel life support involves tubes and machines that do the work of the internal organs. A feeding tube provides nourishment, not organ function.
But, that aside, let’s look at the way her life is ending. She is being starved to death. Not long ago I saw a news item about people who were starving their animals. The animals were rescued and the owners wer arrested for animal abuse. In another report a couple was arrested for child abuse when their children were found, starved and neglected. Even a person on death row is kept comfortable and fed, even though confined to his cell. If he were not fed there would be an uproar over the cruel treatment of the prisoner.
Yet this innocent woman is being ordered by the court to be starved to death!!! Even a dog would be protected from such a cruel action yet the court has ordered her starvation. And I heard today that she is now running a high fever from an infection caused by the way the tube was removed . She cannot be given medication to treat the infection, she cannot be treated for the pain. She is starving, dehydrating and being left to suffer.
No matter what your thoughts on whether she is brain dead or not, how can we stand by and allow this cruel suffering to continue?
For more details you can check out Terri’s web site; you can follow the legal action at the American Center for Law and Justice . I found a website with blogs discussing Florida law and has copies of many of the court documents called Abstact Appeal.
I found a link to audio of Terri after the feeding tube was removed. You can check it out my clicking on the link through at Nick Queen’s blog.
Was her husband right to go on with his life? Do her parents see responses because she is their daughter and they want to believe she is improving? I know this has got to be difficult and I am thankful I do not have to make the decision. I pray God will touch each family person involved and Terri herself. Be with the men and women of the court systems and government.
Several of us got into a discussion the other day I’d like to pass along.
Example 1: Person 1 goes to the pop machine, puts in money and get more change back than she should. (1) does she keep the money and count it as blessing received (2) find the address of the machine owner and pay 37 cents to send back 55 cents (3) leave it in the machine for someone else to deal with?
Example 2: Person 2 goes to a pop machine, puts in money to purchase 1 can and 2 cans pop out. They inform the store proprietor. Next day same machine put in money purchase 1 can and 4 cans pop out!!! They tell the proprietor who tells her they contacted the owner of the machine, the store does not maintain the machine so keep the extra pop. The dilema person 2 felt (1) store owner doesn’t own pop machine so it is not in his authority to give away the pop (2) leave the pop behind because it wasn’t paid for by the purchaser (3) take the pop and count it a blessing (4) leave the pop on the machine for someone else to deal with?
What would you do ? Is the extra a blessing for you to keep OR a test of your integrity to return what is not yours ?
Engadget .com is showing a product being tested by Microsoft. This “Teddy Bear Nanny”….. well, here is there posting at Engadget (I didn’t care for some of the lanquage on the comments that were posted) :
“Microsoft want to watch your kids. And they want to do it through this insanely creepy robot bear, no less. Revealed at Microsoft’s annual gadget showcase yesterday, this “toy” houses four microphones and a camera that uses face finding technology to help parents monitor their children via the web, and speak with them remotely via a special phone. All appears normal until mom or dad log on and the bear’s head begins swiveling to track the child, which is the point where we’d hope any sensible kid would run screaming. Dude, haven’t these people seen Chucky?!”
Teddy Bears are meant to bring love and comfort to a child, not be used by “Big Brother”. It is awful that our world has reached a point where we have to “spy” on each other through a soft plush toy. Instead of spying on your kids, how about going in and playing with them?! The very idea is such a violation of privacy and opens many doors for abuses.
