I just got back from leading the first session of a Knitting Bible Study. The first question everyone asks is “how do you combine knitting and bible study?†. We started tonight with a study of the creation. When God made the earth, the sky, the animals, and the plants he spoke them into existence. “God said , ‘let there be light…..â€. But when he made man, he personally formed man and breathed life into his nostrils. WOW!!! Mankind was planned and created and touched personally by God. Mankind was not a mistake, it was intentional.
Just like God created man we will begin creating a scarf. Okay, maybe not exactly, but it still is important to understand that just as I am creating this scarf, God created me. When my mother was pregnant with me she didn’t decide each day that she needed to make the liver then the spine, then the stomach. She “had†me but God “knit me together in my mother’s wombâ€.
We then went on start knitting a project. We learned to do the Long Tail Cast On and the Knit stitch as we began our seaman’s scarf.
It was exciting to see the women struggle to learn the method and talk to each other as they ripped out their first attempts.
To make the seaman’s scarf: Using size 6 needles, cast on 32 stitches Knit across. Repeat til piece measures 14 inches. Knit 4 Purl 4 across. Repeat for 19 inches. Knit across for 14 inches. Bind off.
Technorati tags: knit needle, knit, purl, bible study, knitting, scarf, creation, God, seaman, seamans scarf
