There is a saying in Missouri “if you don’t like the weather just wait a few hours and it will change”. The everchanging skies can be dark and dreay one minute then bright and illuminating another. Beautiful examples of the Missouri skies can be found at missouriskies.org.

Scripture tells us we can use the skies to predict weather changes. Matthew 16:2 -3

“When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’

The end of of verse 3 though tells us something we cannot predict.

“You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. “

God led the Israelites from Egypt as a cloud in the book of Exodus.

God spoke in Matthew 17:5. While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

Christ’s return will be seen in the clouds. Revelation 10:1 Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars. And in Revelation 11:12, 14-16 Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” And they went up to heaven in a cloud, while their enemies looked on. I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one “like a son of man” with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, “Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.” So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.
