Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. And the one sitting on the horse was named Faithful and True. Rev 19:11
My husband and I sat and watched in awe as the sky lit up with color from each burst. Some looked like a heart, some an X and O and others just a large umbrella opening over us then each one would slowly disappear as the light faded away. What a wonderful scene to celebrate the freedom of this country. A freedom so many men and women have fought and died for so that I might get to spend the day enjoying the family, watching a major league ballgame, experience the thrill of the fireworks display and then to go home to my home knowing I was secure.
While watching the sky for these beautiful bursts of light (see video of the finale from my camera) I was reminded that one day we will look into the sky and see another Light, the Light of World, Jesus Christ. The book of Revelation tells an awe-inspiring story of the return of Christ to this earth He created, to claim dominion over it.
My mother lives about 40 miles from the Royals stadium where I watched fireworks. She could see fireworks from her patio, but not the same ones I witnessed. When the heavens open and Christ appears, we will all see Him, the world over, at one time. How? I haven’t the faintest idea!!!!! But I have come to realize that there are things I don’t have to understand to believe. I don’t understand how I can type these words, press some buttons, and people all over the country can read them within seconds, but I accept the fact it happens and enjoy typing short messages each month proclaiming Christ’s love. I enjoyed the way Christ’s return is depicted in the final book of the “Left Behind” series, “Glorious Appearing by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B Jenkins. I don’t know if it will happen the way they depict it or not, but that, too, doesn’t matter. All that matters is that one day we will all look to the heavens and see our Savior. And in His glory, the light of the fireworks will be like a candle in the desert sun.
1 Thessalonians 5:2 tell us “For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.: Are you prepared for the journey ?
